Provincial Community Safety and Targeted Enforcement (C-Step) Program

Provincial Community Safety and Targeted Enforcement (C-Step) Program

Province of BC is launching a $5 million program across BC as a beginning investment to help crack down on street-level theft, vandalism, shoplifting, property damage and other crimes that undermine businesses and create an unwelcome environment within the downtown core.

Funding can increase summer foot patrols, create actions against retail theft, anti-drug trafficking operations and even to educate local business owners and community members on how they can protect themselves.

Maple Ridge currently has RCMP foot and bike patrols patrolling the downtown core 6 days a week, as well as City of Maple Ridge Community Safety Officers (CSOs) and Westridge Security. The new C-step program provides funding for increased patrols that are targeting street crime such as drug use and trafficking, disturbances, obstruction, indecent acts and public intoxication. The goal is to work with local businesses and social services to create and coordinate plans to address the issues our town faces everyday while effectively working with service providers to ensure individuals in crisis are receiving proper care from appropriate services.
